Get drastic on plastic!

Worldwide, we buy a million plastic bottles every minute. With only a small amount of these bottles being recycled, the environmental impact of plastic pollution is there for all to see.

Sydney Water is committed to protecting and caring for our beaches and waterways. During 2016-17 we removed nearly 2,000 cubic metres of litter from waterways, including 1 million plastic bottles.

Drink containers are a huge part of the problem. With the Beat the Bottle campaign, we want to raise awareness of the fact that drinking tap water is a simple way we can all personally reduce our reliance on single use plastics.

Across our launch events at North Wollongong and Manly Cove, we collected 356kg of rubbish. This included over 4000 cigarette butts, a surfboard, wellington boots, and 70kg of submerged waste cleaned out of Manly Cove by the team at Manly Dive centre.

Check out some photos from our Manly Cove and North Wollongong events below. Make sure to follow us on Facebook to keep informed about upcoming clean up events.
